# Convert ZIP to TAR Free

Unpack a ZIP package and bundle into a standard uncompressed POSIX TAR tape archive client-side.

## What is ZIP to TAR converter?

ZIP to TAR unpacks a ZIP archive in your browser and writes the same files and folders into a POSIX ustar TAR archive — the format expected by tar on Linux and macOS, Docker build contexts and many deployment scripts. File names and folder structure are preserved, and names longer than 100 characters are stored with PAX headers so nothing is truncated. The output is an uncompressed .tar; compress it with gzip afterwards if you need a .tar.gz.

## How to use ZIP to TAR converter

1. **Upload the ZIP** — Select the .zip archive you want to convert.
2. **Convert to TAR** — Every file and folder is read from the ZIP and written into a ustar TAR archive.
3. **Download the .tar** — Save the result and extract it with tar -xf archive.tar or any archive manager.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is the TAR file compressed?

No. The output is a plain .tar, which is usually slightly larger than the ZIP. Run gzip on it if you need a .tar.gz.

### Will long file paths be cut off?

No. Paths over 100 bytes are written with a PAX extended header, which modern tar implementations read correctly.

### Does it work with password-protected ZIPs?

No. Encrypted ZIP entries cannot be read in the browser without the password, so remove the password first.
