## What is GST / VAT Tax Calculator?

The GST Calculator adds tax to a price or extracts tax from a price that already includes it. In exclusive mode, 18% GST on 5,000 is 900, for a total of 5,900. In inclusive mode, the tool works backwards from the total to show the net amount and the tax inside it. Rates of 5%, 12%, 18% (standard) and 28% are available, matching India’s GST slabs, and the same maths applies to VAT and sales tax anywhere.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I remove GST from a price?

Choose Inclusive. The net price is the total ÷ (1 + rate); for 18% that is total ÷ 1.18.

### How is GST split into CGST and SGST?

For sales within one Indian state, the GST amount is split equally: at 18%, 9% CGST and 9% SGST.

### Can I use it for VAT?

Yes. The calculation is identical; choose the rate that matches your VAT rate if it is listed.
