Frequently asked questions
What size should my favicon image be?
Start with a square image of at least 512×512 px. The tool scales it down to every required size.
Why does Google show a different icon for my site?
Google needs a favicon that is a multiple of 48 px and crawlable. After updating, Google can take days or weeks to refresh it in results.
Do I still need favicon.ico?
Modern browsers use the PNG icons. An .ico file is only needed for very old browsers or tools that request /favicon.ico directly.
